The man who confessed to having shot Bas van Wijk in August of this year will be examined psychologically in the Forensic Consortium Adolescents (ForCA). That became clear on Wednesday during the first session in the court of Amsterdam.
The public prosecutor said that an observation in the Pieter Baan Center (PBC) was not chosen, because the waiting list is very long.
Twenty-year-old Samir El Y., who was not at the first introductory session, will be placed in the observation ward of the Teylingereind forensic center on December 31. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) would like to get a picture of the suspect.
El Y. is accused, among other things, of the murder of Van Wijk on August 8 near the water in the Amsterdam park De Oeverlanden. He admits to having shot the man from Badhoevedorp.
Conflict prior to shooting incident
Prior to the shooting incident, a conflict is said to have arisen between Van Wijk’s friends and the group around El Y. El Y. then walked with a weapon on the victim, among others. He would have threatened to ask who had watched his group for so long, according to the charges.
The man would also have reinforced those words by shooting right past two people. When El Y. forced a friend of Van Wijk to give up his counterfeit Rolex, the Badhoevedorper intervened. The suspect would then have shot him.
Lawyer wants to hear witnesses more closely
El Y.’s lawyer, Veerle Hammerstein, would like to hear a number of witnesses more closely. “Not because I doubt their reliability, but to get clarity about the criminal classification of the offense,” said the counsel.
The OM said that the investigation has been completed and that the report is awaiting. The case can probably be dealt with in substance in April.
