The legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes was also voted on in referendums in Arizona, Montana a South Dakota. Results from these countries are not yet available, but according to CNN, at least Arizona also seems to have approved the proposal. In South Dakota, it was also decided to allow the use of marijuana for medical purposes. Voters have voted in favor of the proposal.
Sales of hallucinogenic mushrooms voted in Oregon, where almost 77 percent of voting citizens voted in a referendum. The state on the Pacific coast thus became the first to allow their use. Consumption of mushrooms is allowed only under the supervision of an expert.
The state referendum concerned gender, the environment and abortion
In the states Nebraska a Utah for a change, a referendum was held to change the text of the local institutes. In their wording, the passages that allow slavery persisted, even though it was banned in the United States as early as 1865. Both proposals passed the referendums. Utah also voted for constitutional protection of the right to hunt and fish, and in the desert state, voters enforced a gender-neutral version of the country’s constitution.
The gender issue was also decided by voters in the neighborhood Nevada, where the proposal to allow marriages for gay couples passed. In the southern Louisiana through a referendum, it was given a green provision prohibiting the inclusion in the state constitution of any guarantee of the right to abortion.
In the state Rhode Island rejected the proposal to change the official state name: “State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.” According to critics, the second part, which contains the word “plantations”, refers to slavery and should therefore disappear. Less than 53 percent of voters voted in favor of the current full text in a referendum.
