FBI Investigates Phone Calls Asking Voters’ T …

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has launched an investigation into a series of phone calls asking American voters to stay at home today instead of voting. The FBI wants to make sure that it didn’t disrupt the polls.

US authorities sounded the alarm on Tuesday evening about at least two incidents involving thousands of people being called by an automated computer system.

According to news agency Reuters in one of the cases the call was made to ‘stay home today’. The elections were not explicitly mentioned. According to Bloomberg Several Michigan residents received a telephone message that the elections had been postponed by one day and would not take place until Wednesday. Others also received text messages with ‘misleading information’.

An expert denies Reuters that the computer system that makes the calls is calling people at a ‘very fast pace’.

The Department of Homeland Security confirms against Reuters that the FBI has started an investigation. According to Bloomberg the phone calls are seen as possible intimidation of voters.
