From iPhone 12 mini cannot charge with 15 Watts via a MagSafe charger. According to a new support document from Apple, the maximum output is 12 watts. The consequence? The iPhone 12 mini charges a little slower than other iPhone 12 devices.

‘iPhone 12 mini charges less quickly with the MagSafe charger’
With other devices from the iPhone 12 series, such as the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro in iPhone 12 Pro Max, the MagSafe charger 15 Watts of power. The iPhone 12 mini, on the other hand, is limited to a maximum output of 12 watts. The result of this is that the device charges a little less quickly.
Apple does not give an official explanation, but presumably the lower wattage supply has to do with the smaller battery of the mini-device. The output of the MagSafe charger also depends on other factors, including the activities that the system performs during charging and temperature. It therefore applies to all iPhone 12 devices that the power of the charger is not optimal in some situations.
Also keep in mind the following side note: you must first connect the MagSafe charger to a power source before you put an iPhone on it. If your iPhone is already on the charger before it is connected to the wall socket, the maximum charging power may not be reached. When in doubt, you can pick up your iPhone and put it back on the MagSafe charger after three seconds.
What is MagSafe?
MagSafe is a magnetic connection in iPhone 12 models. There is a circular magnet in the housing of the iPhone, which you can connect to the charger. In the announcement, Apple announced that MagSafe provides 15 Watts of power to supporting devices, including the iPhone 12 series. Unfortunately, it now appears that the iPhone 12 mini is somewhat limited.
Your iPhone and Apple Watch load? This is possible in the future with the MagSafe Duo charger. This has not yet been announced, but has surfaced at a Korean inspection agency. This may indicate an early release.
When will the iPhone 12 mini come out?
Normally, new iPhones can always be pre-ordered on the Friday after the announcement, but 2020 is a unique year. The iPhone 12 mini pre-order is valid 6 november started. Next is the compact entry-level model available from November 13, if you can get hold of one.
The sales prices are then as follows: 809 euros for the 64GB variant, 859 euros for the device with 128GB and finally the 256GB iPhone 12 mini costs 979 euros.
