A teardown video of the DualSense controller for the PlayStation 5 shows the larger vibrators that Sony uses for the haptic feedback. You can also see how the resistance for the adaptive triggers is being created.
YouTuber TronicsFix has opened a DualSense controller and compares it to a DualShock controller for the PlayStation 4. From the video it can be concluded that the vibrating motors in the new controller are much larger. Sony promises better haptic feedback with the new DualSense controller over the predecessor.
Another new feature of the DualSense controller is the adaptive triggers. The L2 and R2 buttons have resistance that can change for different situations in games. This should enable players to feel the tension of a bow, for example. Also, different weapons in shooting games would all feel different. Developers must build support for this in their games. The teardown video shows the mechanism that Sony uses for the adaptive triggers. This consists of different gears and a motor with which the resistance can be set.
Several journalists have already indicated that the effect of the adaptive triggers can be clearly felt in Astro’s Playroom. Sony supplies that game with the PlayStation 5 and uses all new DualSense features. On Twitter says a video showing how the trigger of a DualSense controller ‘struggles’.
