Taxi Project files a complaint against Uber and Cabify in the AEPD
The pressure association directed by Tito Álvarez, Taxi Project 2.0, has filed a complaint with the Spanish Agency for Data Protection (AEPD) on Wednesday against the companies Uber and Cabify for violations of data protection legislation.
Álvarez explained that they have presented an “extensive dossier” with evidence that would prove that both Uber and Cabify “systematically fail” up to eight different articles between European and state regulations on data protection.
The facts, investigated by high-level computer scientists, show that there are sufficient indications for the AEPD to act ex officio.
“When a user hires a service with Uber or Cabify, they do not know what happens to their personal data or what they are exposed to when they reach the driver or the third company to which the Vehicle Transport with Driver (VTC) belongs that has to pick them up.
And in the same way, they do not ensure that the driver corresponds to the one indicated in the application.
Likewise, Álvarez has indicated:
“Uber, even with a CJEU ruling that says that they provide a transport service, continues to say that it is an intermediary and that it is not responsible for what may happen to the consumer who hires its services and they force them to accept that clause, while Cabify presents itself as a travel agency, but it does the same ».
On the other hand, european lobby association, has announced that it will direct more actions related to these denounced events to the competent bodies in the field of consumers and users.
Taxi Project 2.0 has recalled that the investigation of the Prosecutor’s Office against Uber for tax crime and open documentary scam as a result of his complaint is still ongoing, as well as complaints to the Labor Inspection against companies that act as intermediaries for Uber and Cabify.
