The feature film Bulado is the Dutch entry for the Oscars. The film by director Eché Janga, with Everon Jackson Hooi, Tiara Richards and Felix de Rooy, among others, competes in the International Feature Film category.
The film was selected from thirteen applications by a committee consisting of various people from the Dutch film industry. Nominations in all categories will be announced on 15 March.
The 93rd Oscar ceremony will then take place on April 25, 2021. It was actually scheduled for February 28, but the ceremony has been postponed due to the corona crisis.
Bulado premiered at the Netherlands Film Festival on September 25 and was awarded the Golden Calf for Best Film. The film is currently in cinemas, and will be on Netflix in early 2021.
The film is about eleven-year-old Kenza (Tiara Richards) who grows up on Curaçao with her father Ouira (Hooi) and grandfather Weljo (Felix de Rooy) in a house on a junkyard. Her father is a police officer, her grandfather is fascinated by the spiritual world. The girl tries to find out what her preference is.
Bulado was shot entirely on Curaçao and was a dream come true for Hooi, he says in a response to NU.nl. “The special script that immediately touched my soul, the shooting process on my native island of Curaçao, which was magical and personal. The fact that with this film I can show the audience a completely different side of myself as an actor. I am very grateful for that. “
