Elected LREM from Côte-d’Or, Senator François Patriat and MP Didier Paris support the action of ARS Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. They recall that 45% of French people would find the containment measures still “too light” in the face of the Covid-19 epidemic.
Press release from Didier Paris and François Patriat of November 1, 2020:
Covid19 – The vital issue of containment
The State fully assumes its responsibility by doing everything to fight, as effectively as possible, against the pandemic and to provide massive support to our economy and trade.
Today, in France, one person is hospitalized every 30 seconds and one dies every 4 minutes. In our region, as the Regional Health Agency indicates, “the wave of patients is only beginning to surge on our hospitals” and “thousands of lives are at stake”.
In this context, containment measures, even difficult ones, are absolutely necessary. We must preserve our hospital capacities, support our health personnel who continue, despite fatigue, to do a remarkable job. Today they no doubt need to be applauded, but even more to be sure that our fellow citizens respect the health measures taken.
Our closest neighbors are in the same situation. Very tense in Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Great Britain or Holland; worrying in Germany and obviously still just as delicate in Spain and Italy.
The French are worried but two-thirds of them approve of the re-containment and 45% still find the measures too light when only 15% consider them excessive (cf. latest Elabe poll)
It is in this situation that we must unite, rule out unnecessary controversies, reject political postures, such as the orders taken by certain mayors to open all businesses. Beyond even the absence of any legality, they make us run a very great risk, that of overshadowing the vital issue of confinement, which is to save lives.
It is the behavior of each of us that will guarantee the health of all. We must accept the temporary constraints that the pandemic imposes on us and show ourselves more than ever responsible and united.
