what are the affected areas?

“We are in this second wave” and “we have to react”: Emmanuel Macron argued at length on Wednesday evening during his interview on TF1 and France 2 before announcing a night curfew in the areas most affected by the Covid -19. In total, nine areas will experience a curfew from Saturday 9 pm, detailed the President of the Republic. The places in question are, for the most part, the current “zones on maximum alert”.

The following are concerned: the Ile-de-France region and the metropolitan areas of Grenoble, Lille, Lyon, Aix-Marseille, Montpellier, Rouen, Saint-Etienne and Toulouse.

This curfew is made possible by the reactivation of the state of health emergency from Saturday, October 17.

A curfew until December 1

It will no longer be possible to go out at night from 9 p.m. and until 6 a.m., said Emmanuel Macron. “The government is in a position to decree it for four weeks, and we will go to Parliament to extend it until December 1,” he said.

“There will not be a traffic ban but a strict limitation”, he continued, and “there will be checks and fines”. Violation of this curfew will be punished, as during confinement, with a fine of € 135, increased to € 1,500 in the event of a repeat offense within 15 days.

This curfew helps to ward off the government’s legal powerlessness to ban gatherings in private places, especially young people. “We must reduce the private contacts which are the most dangerous”, recognized Emmanuel Macron.
