The trial was halted on Wednesday because the man started to vomit. The suspect was sent back to prison where he visited a doctor. The session was resumed the following day. “Because the symptoms appeared last Wednesday, the hearing will be suspended until Tuesday,” the court informed the lawyers concerned in an email.
The other suspects must be tested and the resumption of the trial will depend on the results of those tests and the health status of the defendants, according to the court. The court president called on everyone to respect the corona regulations about keeping a sufficient distance and wearing mouth masks. “The pleas are made with a mask and it must be worn correctly.”
The 2015 attacks were committed in the name of Islamic extremism. The weekly Charlie Hebdo had published cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed. The three perpetrators are already dead and those now on trial are suspected of such things as membership of a terrorist organization and terrorist financing. At the time, a total of seventeen people were killed.
The trial of the suspects started more than two months ago and nearly 150 witnesses and experts have already spoken.
