“Blue Moon” appeared in the sky on October 31, 2020, for the first time in 76 years. Its name does not refer to its color, but to the English phrase “once in a blue moon” which means “something very rare”. This is an exceptional and unique phenomenon because it is the second full moon within one month. Great pictures of the Moon were fully captured by Artur Królikowski from Muszyna. Blue Moon – what is it?
The name “Blue Moon” does not come from the color of the full moon. It is taken from the English phrase “once in a blue moon” which means “something very rare”. We usually have one full moon per month, but in October 2020 there are two.

Blue Moon 2020 in October – a unique phenomenon
A full moon is a very good opportunity to take a closer look at the Earth’s natural satellite. This month we had such a chance at its beginning, but already on October 31st the natural satellite of the Earth. Although a full moon occurs every 29.5 days, the Blue Moon last appeared in the sky in October 1944.
