FC Groningen won the home game against VVV-Venlo with 2-1 on Saturday evening. Patrick Joosten and Jørgen Strand Larsen scored the Groningen goals. Just before time, VVV scored against. The Groningers are busy with a good series of matches: ten points were taken from the last four matches.

There was little or nothing to be said about the victory of the home team. The goals were scored at the right moments, the team of coach Danny Buijs played concentrated and left the Limburgers no illusion that something could be achieved. In injury time, the goal against fell through a beautiful bicycle kick from Giakoumakis. This was also the last action of the game. Due to this victory, FC Groningen is currently climbing to sixth place in the Eredivisie with thirteen points from seven games.
Van Kaam’s goal rejected
The home team seemed to take the lead after fifteen minutes when Van Kaam managed to finish an action by Strand Larsen. In the run-up to Noor’s cross, the striker hit VVV defender Swinkels with his elbow. The VAR called referee Lindhorst to the side, after which the referee denied the goal.
Opening goal
Ten minutes later it was hit. The action belonged to Da Cruz, Strand Larsen touched the ball lightly after which Joosten accepted. The wing attacker easily turned away and shot the ball diagonally behind VVV goalkeeper Kirschbaum with the left: 1-0.
Imposed chance Van Kaam
Shortly after the opening goal, Daniël van Kaam was given an opportunity to double the score. Beach Larsen shook off a number of opponents and prepared the ball for the incoming midfielder. Van Kaam, however, did not hit the toy well and shot past.
Second goal FC Groningen
FC Groningen quickly doubled the lead in the second half. After a good action by substitute Lundqvist, Da Cruz was put in position. He found Beach Larsen on the edge of the box, which was completely uncovered, but nevertheless hit the 2-0 score.
Control
FC Groningen also retained control after these hits. VVV hardly came close to goalkeeper Sergio Padt. Via Da Cruz and Gudmundsson, the home team was close to a third goal, but it did not come. VVV did score brilliantly, via a bicycle kick by Giakoumakis, but this was the last action of the match.

FC Groningen will continue the season next Sunday, November 8, with the away match against Feyenoord. The kick-off in Rotterdam is at 2.30 p.m.
