New York deconfinement phase 2 launched in advance
New York continues its return to normal! After having implemented phase 1 of deconfinement on June 8, 2020, New York City Hall announces the adoption of phase 2 as of Monday, June 22, 2020.
Originally, the triggering of phase 2 was only due to take place during the month of July, but the clear improvement in the situation on the coronavirus front makes it possible to move faster.
The infection curve has indeed flattened sharply, since the peak of April 6, 2020. See the graph on the evolution of the number of cases of coronavirus in New York:
What are the changes?
Phase 1 allowed more than 400,000 New Yorkers to return to work. This concerned the construction, clothing, agriculture and distribution sectors. See the full list in my article on phase 1 of deconfinement in New York.
Phase 2 now authorizes the opening of hairdressing salons and barbers as well as stores dedicated to repairs. Another eagerly awaited opening: restaurants! One limitation, however: restaurants will not be able to serve their customers indoors but only on the terrace, in order to maintain social distancing.
Other concrete developments in phase 2: real estate agencies can also reopen, just like vehicle rental companies.
In general, all businesses in the tertiary sector are authorized to reopen, provided that office occupancy is maintained at 50% of capacity.
New York remains mobilized
The fact that phase 2 of deconfinement has been brought forward is a very positive sign: the Covid-19 epidemic is on the way to being brought under control in New York!
But that does not prevent the New York authorities from remaining cautious. The New York City Hall calls on everyone to continue to respect the rules of social distancing. Hairdressers will therefore have to wear a mask, a plexiglass visor and a blouse.
The positive evolution of the situation will allow the passage to phase 3 but, for the time being, no date has been set for the continuation of the deconfinement. Shopping centers, fitness rooms, casinos, cinemas, places of entertainment (zoos, aquariums, theme parks) therefore remain closed until further notice. To be continued !
