During a major renovation of a few buildings in the Tweede Jacob van Campenstraat in the Pijp, a wall collapsed around 1 p.m. and ended up on a construction worker. He was trapped under the rubble and was freed by the fire brigade.

The victim has been stabilized and lifted from the top floor of the building with a ladder truck. The fire brigade could not yet say whether and how seriously the construction worker is injured. He was taken to hospital.
‘I had the feeling that one leg was broken,’ says colleague Raymond Prins. ‘He’s been a bit lucky, in my view. But I’m not a doctor. ‘
According to Prins, the construction worker fell through the floor during the blow. So his legs were hanging through the ceiling, half. And one leg was hanging above, that was the most bothering him. ‘

But how can a wall just fall over? ‘They are very old houses and there only needs to be a gust of wind,’ says Prins.
The exact cause, however, is still unknown. Construction and Housing Supervision has been called in to investigate how this accident could have happened on a construction site.
