SPKC calls for refraining from celebrating Halloween outside the home

Riga, October 30, LETA. Due to the prevalence of Covid-19, it is now important for residents to refrain from unnecessary social contact and not to participate in events that are frequented by many people, so the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC) urges everyone to think carefully and refrain from celebrating Halloween outside the home.

As Ilze Arāja, a representative of the SPKC, informed LETA, taking into account the current difficult epidemiological situation and the rapidly growing incidence of Covid-19 in Latvia, the centre’s epidemiologists draw the public’s attention to the fact that the main precautionary principles must be observed during the holidays.

The SPKC reminds that in order to reduce the spread of Covid-19, additional safety conditions must be observed from October 30, for example, when gathering with friends and family – no more than ten people may gather indoors and outdoors.

Particular caution should be exercised in people at risk, such as the elderly and people with chronic illnesses, as they may be more likely to develop Covid-19.

The SPKC also calls on parents to follow their children’s progress and explain how important it is for everyone to take responsibility not only for their own health but also for the health of others.

Some students have distance learning to limit the spread of infectious diseases, so the SPCC urges young people to limit face-to-face meetings with fewer friends, to keep a distance of two meters, to choose outdoor activities, and to spend time in physical activity. For indoor communication with friends online, SPKC recommends the use of various social networking platforms.

The Minister of Health Ilze Ņķele (AP) has also called on the microblogging site “Twitter” to celebrate Halloween at home this year.
