(COVID-19) In New York State, test positivity rates show contrasting trends, governor says – Xinhua English.news.cn

NEW YORK, Oct.30 (Xinhua) – COVID-19 test positivity rate in areas targeted by the “ micro-cluster ” strategy adopted in New York State, where the pandemic is most severe , was 2.75% Thursday, down from 3.24% a day earlier, Gov. Andrew Cuomo tweeted Friday.

The statewide positivity rate, excluding those targeted areas, was 1.38%, up from 1.25% on Wednesday, he said.

Of the 146,885 tests reported Thursday, 2,255 were positive, or 1.53% of the total, up from 1.48% a day earlier, he added.

The COVID-19 test positivity rate in New York State was ranked earlier this week as the second-lowest rate in the United States, at 1.39%, just after Maine (0.77% ) and ahead of New Hampshire (1.5%), according to the Coronavirus Resource Center (CRC) at Johns Hopkins University.

As of Friday afternoon, the Johns Hopkins University Center for Systems Science and Engineering reported 33,451 deaths from the coronavirus in New York State, the nation’s worst-hit.
