Heart attack
Koos van Blerkom occasionally worked in a supermarket and cooked as a volunteer at Resto VanHarte in Lelystad. He was fully alive until he had a heart attack on Friday October 16. When Blerkom was not feeling well after work, an ambulance was called in to take him to the hospital. However, the first hospital had closed the emergency department due to the crowds and at the second hospital all beds were occupied.
For a long time, it was unclear to daughter Caroline which hospital her father was taken to. When she got in touch by phone, it turned out to be too late. She was told her father had just passed away. “I cannot and do not want to judge too quickly whether it indeed took too long before he was in the hospital,” says Caroline. Heart of the Netherlands, “But of course that didn’t help.”
Effects
Although her father was only buried ten days ago, Caroline thinks it is very important that her story is shared. “People have to realize that corona exists. That first. But also that it has consequences for many others in society. Everyone should take this seriously, because this could be the result. ”
