In September, retail trade turnover increased by 5.9% / Article / LSM.lv

In September 2020, compared to September 2019, the retail trade turnover increased by 5.9%, according to the calendar adjusted data at constant prices compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB).

Retail trade of food products increased by 5.3%. The volume of retail trade of non-food products, excluding retail sale of automotive fuel, increased by 3.5%, motor fuels – increased by 13.4%.

Compared to September 2019, the most significant increase in turnover was in retail sale of electrical household appliances (by 32.9%), retail sale of pharmaceutical and medical goods (by 14%) and non-specialized stores, which mainly sell non-food products (by 9%).

A significant decrease in turnover was in retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (by 19.5%), retail sale via stalls and markets (by 14.1%) and retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (by 7.8%).

The total turnover of retail trade enterprises at current prices, excluding the effect of calendar days, increased by 5.2%.

In September 2020, compared to August, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices, the turnover of retail trade enterprises increased by 0.4%. Retail trade of food products increased by 0.5%.

The volume of retail trade of non-food products, excluding retail sale of automotive fuel, increased by 0.4%, retail trade of automotive fuel increased by 0.1%.

Compared to the previous month, the most significant increase in turnover was in retail sale of electrical household appliances (by 9.6%), retail sale via mail order houses or in Internet shops (by 5.7%) and retail sale of pharmaceutical and medical goods (by 2.2%).

The largest decrease in turnover was in retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (by 4.6%), retail sale of information and communication technology equipment in specialized stores (by 3.7%) and retail sale at stalls and markets (by 3.1%).

In September 2020, compared to August, the total turnover of retail trade enterprises at current prices, excluding seasonality, decreased by 6.3%.

CONTEXT:

Retail trade turnover in Latvia in August, compared to August 2019, increased by 4.4%. In July, compared to July last year, retail sales increased by 3.8% in June turnover increased by 4.6%. In May and April, on the other hand, annual retail trade turnover decreased respectively by 0.6% a 9%due to the Covid-19 crisis and the measures taken to control the spread of the infection.

In turn, in 2019, compared to 2018, the retail trade turnover increased by 2.3%.
