“Māra Ķimele is unique, and although everyone should be like that in art, it is not.
First of all, her uniqueness is formed by belonging to a family. Her grandfather is Jūlijs Lācis, a writer, journalist and politician, her grandmother-director Anna Lācis, who knew how to stage not only performances but also her life, and today legends about who she was a muse are more vivid than memories of her performances. . Her father is actor Vilis Ķimelis, and her mother is theater worker Dagmāra Ķimele. Her son Pēteris is an artist, “writes theater scientist Ieva Struka.

“Secondly, Māra Ķimele is one of the still few theater directors who studied in a rich school outside Latvia with an outstanding master Anatoly Efros. Her path to directing has not been through a successful or less successful acting career, she immediately goes to school to study directing. After returning to Latvia, she has worked throughout her life in her profession, which is not so obvious, because her creative spirit, ability to work and energy, sensitivity to world events and new winds in the world of theater do not stay a long way.

Thirdly, Māra Ķimele is an excellent teacher, and she has also done this work throughout her life. Her first students today seem to be with a teacher for one year, but she is still at the Latvian Academy of Culture and working with young people. Most likely, the formula of eternal youth sought by alchemists can be found here. Of course, the young people get the appreciation of a hardened professional for their first works, but beyond that – a unique opportunity to be in the radiance of Māra Ķimele’s personality field. I think that its influence is even more important than job skills, because people of this scale are not common in art either, “says Struka.

“Fourth, throughout her life, Māra Ķimele has combined a deeply Latvian sense of the world with universal values and qualities, with the breath of the world given to her by her own school and the taste of freedom from the mid-1960s, probably also destiny or mystery. she feels Raini and Blauman, Priedi and Ābelis, opening the values written in the texts of these authors to others, is not given to all directors, but – Māra also feels free in the world of Shakespeare and Chekhov.

Fifth, Mara is Mara. Really just one. Not to be confused with its appearance – a modest-length, brown curly hair. She is not a Latvian mother, she is somehow out of time and space – outdated and yet one who has earned an award for her lifetime contribution to theater. A woman with cramps that will put at the site of inactive actors, and at the same time fragile. She will notice every detail of the relationship, but she is just as sensitive to what is happening in the big world. It is clear that her heightened perception of the world is not always comfortable for others, but – at least it is comfortable for herself. But that’s the only way art is born, “writes Ieva Struka.

“Mara is one of those rare directors who is also an educator. Who tells not only what she needs, but also how to do it for an actor.” This flourishes like a flower – let this run like a bird “.” Mara’s genius is – “not fast and not slow, but as needed…” Mara is the beginning of my success story, “says Dace Evers, actress of Valmiera Theater, about the director.

In turn, Ķimele’s student, director Elmārs Sņkovs says: “Māra is a real researcher of people and characters. She knew people. She is able to find strengths and weaknesses. She is like an X-ray. Māra can say directly and sometimes harshly if necessary. Mara can also show the way to someone who has gone astray. Her wisdom and life experience is invaluable. At the first moment, what she says is not always acceptable, but after a while you realize that she was right. And more and more often it seems to me that Mara is in contact with a field of information that gives her the right words and actions.Mara loves theater, but this love is not just a passionate interest. It’s more! Theater she has a dialogue with the author, with God and herself.Mara likes to work with the wise people, smart actors, it inspires her, so it is important for her that her students go deeper and understand the world, that they are open to everything that is foreign and incomprehensible, that Mara does not love grayness and equality. il diversity. Mara makes you move. Mara herself is in eternal motion and interested in what is happening. Mara can so often be found at various events, festivals and theater performances. All the students and Mara are sitting around the campfire, here suddenly the question is – look at the fire, can you tell what it is? And everyone is watching the fire in silence! Mara knows how to create moments that remain in her memory. Mara does not love carelessness and arrogance in the theater. And it makes others, including me, be level. Never give in to complicated art. To be honest with my work. I am inexpressibly happy and proud that my master and teacher is Māra Ķimele. Māra you are powerful and very beautiful! “

This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to Mikhail Chekhov’s Riga Russian Theater actor Leonid Lenc (1947). Theatrical critic and scientist Edite Tishheizer writes about him: “He is one of those cultural people who literally paves the bridge between spirituality, understanding and empathy between people and nations. With a deep understanding of different cultures and reigns, Leonīds Lencs has created images that affect everyone – because they are first and foremost complex, contradictory and interesting human beings. .

Studied at the Faculty of Theater of the Latvian State Conservatory in the course of Arkady Kaca, he appropriated the accuracy of this director’s form, analytical attitude towards the image and the performance in general and combined it with fearless immersion in the hidden depths of human feelings. He has worked with directors of various artistic principles, starting with contemporary theater classics Pēteris Steins, Oļģerts Kroders, Roman Kozaks and ending with much younger generations of directing, represented by Viesturs Kairišs and Elmārs Senņovs. Because it is clear that Lenid Lenz’s iron professionalism will not disappoint, he will find his personal key and spiritual fulfillment for any directing task. It is the spiritual dimension, the ethical core, that has often placed the characters he plays at the center of the show, although Leonid Lenz, being a dignified and sensitive partner, has never set his hero above others. Leonid Lenz’s wanderer Antonio in “Let’s Curse Your Two Families”, as well as the high-born Kent Shakespeare’s “King Lira”, Dr. Dorn Chekhov’s “Seagull” and Kurt Strindberg’s “Dance of Death” became the spiritual center of the production.

The spine and masculine stance attract the eye in Lenz’s acting, but behind the strength of his images, sensitivity, confusion and weakness are often felt. Whoever has seen it will not forget how Indrāni’s father froze, realizing not only the depth of his resentment, but also the depth of his guilt. Performing arts are volatile. The imprint it leaves on the mind and heart of the viewer can be strong. Leonid Lenz is one of those talents who is destined to influence people and maybe even change them for the better. “

“Leonid Lenz is an actor of extraordinary talent and psychological strength, who inspires both colleagues and audiences. Lenz is always a whole-hearted game, fully investing in his work, creating colorful and expressive images in any role with versatile mastery, both in classical and contemporary dramatic productions. , low voice, huge knowledge and a wide range of talents give him amazing creative possibilities.Lonīds Lencs really knows how to make one laugh or cry with one gesture – as well as sympathize.

He has played more than 130 roles in our theater, including productions of works by Latvian authors. Here, of course, we should first mention the strong and deep image of old Indran in the performance of Rudolf Blaumanis ‘play “Indrāni” (2012) – for this role Leonīds Lencs was nominated for the “Players’ Night” award. He played with subtle sense in the play “The Blessing of Love”, in which he embodied Raini during the poet’s adulthood. Among the roles of recent years, it is necessary to name Dorns in Chekhov’s “Seagull” by Peter Stein, Chmutin in “Retro”, Vosmibratov in “Forest” and Fathers in “Fro”. In the current repertoire, Leonid Lenz can be seen in the performances “Skrandaiņi un nobility”, “Tango ar Stroke” and “King Leer”, in which he has absolutely different characters, but each of them is alive, excitingly created and addresses the viewer. Leonid Lenz is not only a talented actor, but a charming, intelligent man with a subtle sense of humor. A person you can always count on. Gentleman. Strong personality. I feel proud that I am familiar with Leonid Lenc, and that fate has decided for me to work with him under the roof of one theater! “Writes actress Dana Bjorka, the director of Riga Russian Theater, about the actor.

“Leonid Lenz is REAL. A real man, a real actor, a real partner and a man! I could talk about him for a long time and enthusiastically. All his roles – without exception! – are bright, whether it’s the main character or an episodic image. the stage next to him, to be his stage partner is a happiness I have felt more than once.He is alive, he has a great sense of humor, but his improvisations are sometimes worth performing! He is attentive, smart and delicate.I highly appreciate Leonid Lenz as a colleague and a human being, and I am infinitely glad that he has earned this award, “said actress Ekaterina Frolova.

We remind you that the most significant award in Theater Art will traditionally be presented on November 23, the birthday of the patriarch of Latvian theater Eduards Smiļģis. This year’s “Players’ Night” ceremony will take place in Liepaja, but it will be available to watch live on LTV1.
