He Collective of Merchants for Alicante will present a formal petition to the town hall so that the public tender for the concession of exploitation of the two positions for the sale of nougat of the facade of Central Market.
The merchants want their origin, location and tradition to be respected, because these stalls represent trade traditional at its finest.
As explained by the Merchants Collective, these two stalls were born as an idea of great acceptance and consensus and with the concept of promoting and publicizing the sale of nougat from Jijona as well as other typical traditional sweets made or sold under the supervision of expert nougat makers. Also to offer a series of exclusive products for Alicante residents and visitors who provided the Central Market environment with a professional, differentiating and complementary offer.
The Collective of Merchants for Alicante considers that the opening to all kinds of “Alicante” products would not only enter into direct competition with businesses already established in the area, but also would not offer a differentiating, exclusive or striking offer for the surroundings of the emblematic Central Market of Alicante, thus losing the original idea and the reason for its installation.
In the same way, the origin and roots of these two nougat stands are lost, when the new sheet is collected the possibility of installing nightstands, that although in another moment or place it could be positive, here it would continue to distort the concept and the original idea that caused its implementation.
For all these reasons, this group will ask the Alicante City Council to respect the idea original of the installation of these two stalls selling nougats from Xixona on public roads, bet on a differentiating offer and exclusive of a product such as nougat and call the contest again under the original criteria that led to its birth and that currently must be more current than ever.
