In the hospital the numbers are still rising slightly. The number of corona patients is 2384 on Thursday, 8 more than a day earlier, according to the National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS).
Those 8 admissions were all in intensive care. The number of Covid-19 patients has thus increased to 553. The number of corona patients in the nursing ward has remained the same at 1831.
Infections under 10,000
Between Wednesday morning and Thursday morning, 10,280 positive corona tests were registered, but that figure is biased. On Wednesday, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) had reported 8118 positive tests, while in reality this was slightly higher, but was not passed on due to a technical malfunction. “Yesterday the number was a bit lower because reports had not been received. They are now included ”, a RIVM spokesperson confirms to De Telegraaf.
The combined average of Wednesday and Thursday is therefore around 9,200. The number thus appears to be decreasing. In the previous three days, the health institute always reported more than 10,000 infections. “It looks like it,” said the RIVM spokesperson. “But we don’t draw any conclusions from that, because we look at the figures once a week. We always do this on Tuesdays. At the time, Jaap van Dissel already reported that the increase in the increase is decreasing. ”
The RIVM cannot indicate exactly how many positive tests from Wednesday were included on Thursday, but emphasizes that all tests have now been processed.
Incidentally, reports of corona deaths and infections are not always processed on the same day. So there is by definition a certain delay in the figures.
Hospitals
The figures in the hospitals are ‘expected’. Ernst Kuipers of the National Acute Care Network had previously indicated that approximately 2500 covid patients would have been admitted to hospitals by the end of the month.
The pressure on healthcare is still growing and Dutch hospitals are now forced to scale up regular healthcare by about 25 to 30 percent. This specifically concerns clinical care that requires an operating theater and hospital bed. Day treatment, such as chemotherapy for cancer patients, as well as consultation hours and, for example, the X-ray department will continue as usual.
To limit the damage as much as possible, the LCPS is busy spreading patients across the regions every day. In the past 24 hours there were 35 trips between the regions, 4 of which were IC trips. In addition, an unknown number of patients were moved to other hospitals within their own region, for example from Rotterdam to Goes or from Amsterdam to Alkmaar.
New interventions threaten to prevent a peak like during the first wave. At the peak, about 1,400 corona patients were in intensive care and about 2,500 in the nursing ward.
Coronadoden at weekcijfers
The number of deaths in the last 24 hours was 62. That does not mean that all these people died in the past 24 hours. Such information is sometimes passed on with some delay. 54 deaths were reported between Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning.
Then the weekly figures. In the past seven days, a total of almost 68,000 positive tests have been registered in the Netherlands. Over the week before, the RIVM reported more than 58,000 new cases. This means that more than 330,000 people in the Netherlands have been tested positive since the start of the outbreak. The current weekly figures are therefore also higher than those of the week before.
The Rotterdam-Rijnmond safety region registered 1159 positive tests. Utrecht recorded 1079 cases, followed by Central and West Brabant (827). The Haaglanden region had 805 new infections and Brabant Southeast 752.
