Although Jamai released an album in 2018 and the song ‘Enoeg Te Doen’ did quite well, the success was nowhere near ‘Step Right Up’. Not surprising, of course, because that was the first single by a Dutchman Idols-winner ever. “The biggest challenge for a musician is to relate to his biggest hit. I underestimated that, you know. It has been such a popular song. And, just like those weird glasses, it symbolizes what Idols back then, ”Jamai tells it Algemeen Dagblad.
Jamai has thought about not singing the song again. He got tired of people spontaneously ‘come oooon‘started shouting when they met him. But when he dropped the song from a few gigs, he realized that the fans wouldn’t accept it. “Then people who have bought a ticket feel screwed.”

Jim Bakkum of course also participated in the first Dutch edition of Idols. He finished second, behind Jamai. In the beginning the men still spoke to each other regularly, but that contact has now completely evaporated. In the video below Jim tells all about it.
