Women’s strike. Small towns are protesting

The Women’s Strike also took place in Choczewo in the province of Pomeranian. Only about 1,400 inhabitants live in the town itself. According to information in social media, over a hundred people took part in the march, including the mayor of this rural commune, 30 cars and two PKS buses from Gdynia.

In the slightly larger city of Oświęcim (a city of about 40,000 inhabitants), there was also a crowd of protesters on Wednesday evening.

A protest of several hundred people was also held in Łańcut (Podkarpackie Province, approx. 18,000 inhabitants). This is one of the so-called PiS bastions. In the parliamentary elections in 2019, Law and Justice received nearly 55 percent of the vote here. all voices. Despite this, the inhabitants of this town are very critical of the ruling camp after the Constitutional Court’s decision on abortion.

Protesters also gathered at John Paul II Square in Wadowice (Małopolskie Voivodeship, less than 20,000 inhabitants). According to the local media, “defenders of the church” stood in front of the basilica, but there were no tensions. The protesters marched through the streets of the city and didn’t even come close to the churches.

The crowd also went out in Wąbrzeźno in the province. Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, where only 13 thousand city, over several hundred people took to the streets.

It was similar in Jędrzejów in the province. Świętokrzyskie, where a group of several hundred people – mainly women – gathered in front of the Piast Department Store on Kościuszko Square and organized a parade around the area.

Another small town in which PiS definitely won in the parliamentary elections in 2019 (it received 59 percent of support here) is Limanowa in the province. Lesser Poland.

These are just some of the many small towns whose inhabitants have decided to go out into the streets last week. Protests in such small towns prove that opposition to the decisions of the Constitutional Tribunal is manifested almost everywhere in Poland.

The Constitutional Tribunal heard the case as a full bench. The chairman of the adjudicating bench was the president of the Constitutional Tribunal, Julia Przyłębska, and the rapporteur – Judge Justyn Piskorski. Dissenting opinions were submitted by judges Piotr Pszczółkowski and Leon Kieres.

After the decision of the Constitutional Tribunal, protests against the tightening of the abortion law began across Poland.
