Protests broke out after sunset in Brooklyn and there were some incidents of property destruction. Police said NYPD vehicles were damaged and some garbage cans caught fire. About 30 people have been arrested, a NYPD spokesperson told NBC News.

It was unclear what charges they faced, but the police spokesman said several New York police officers were injured when a car tried to drive through a group of police officers. Several videos posted on social media show the driver clearly telling officers “I’m just trying to go home” before officers allow the driver to close the door and leave. Seconds later, officers used clubs to smash the car’s windows, and that’s when the driver drove through them.

Police say the driver got away. It is unclear if the driver was actually involved in the protest or if they were just passing through.

The unrest in the city stemmed from the shooting of Walter Wallace Jr. in West Philadelphia on Monday. Police responded to a call about a gunman during a domestic dispute, and officers could be heard on video telling Wallace to put down the knife before opening fire.

Wallace’s family said they told officers the 27-year-old had a history of mental health problems and did not have to shoot.

The National Guard was called to Philadelphia as protests, some peaceful while others leading to looting and damage to buildings, continued Tuesday night. The protesters marched towards a district police headquarters, and later in the evening some of the protesters threw stones, water bottles and other items at the responding police officers.

Along with the protest, further looting occurred when helicopter footage showed looters targeting Footlocker, Walmart and other nearby stores in the Port Richmond neighborhood of the city.

Earlier in the evening, Gov. Tom Wolf’s office confirmed that the Pennsylvania National Guard would mobilize to head to Philadelphia, where they would help protect local property and supplement city police, a Guard spokesman told the affiliate. local NBC.
