The VSStÖ shows no understanding of the latest developments in the subject of the UG amendments.
Vienna (OTS) – The study law is currently being amended under the leadership of the turquoise-green government. In the future, among other things, students will have to achieve a minimum academic achievement in the form of a certain number of ECTS. If they fail to do this, they will be de-registered. Furthermore, access to a course of study is blocked for life if one does not pass the associated StEOP.
VSStÖ chairman Dora Jandl is angry about this development: “With this, Austrian higher education policy finally gives up the claim to promote education among the population. Instead of education, it’s all about training. No matter what the price. “
“It is particularly difficult for us at the moment, but even before Corona it was not easy for us students. The financial burden of studying is unmanageable for many due to high tuition fees, inadequate subsidy systems and rising living costs, ”she continues.
Instead of starting here and giving the students a helping hand, giving them space for education and relieving them of the ongoing psychological stress that many suffer from, they are drawn to ever harder groups. They seem to have forgotten that the actors themselves were allowed to study under completely different conditions.
“The assumption that students do not perform sufficiently is far from reality and shows that the turquoise-green government has absolutely no understanding of the living conditions of students!” Concludes Jandl.
