Samsung’s range of NVMe SSDs has just been enriched with the 990 EVO Plus family. It consists of several capacities with a maximum of 4 TB and uses a PCIe 4.0 x4 or PCIe 5.0 x2 interface.
This flash drive comes in an M.2 2280 format. This number refers to dimensions of 22 mm wide and 80 mm long. Its mechanics are based on a proprietary 5nm controller and TLC 3D memory chips (8th generation V-NAND). On the performance side, Samsung promises a maximum throughput of 7.2 GB/s in sequential reading compared to 6.3 GB/s in sequential writing. In handling 4K files, the fastest model achieves IOPS scores of 1,050,000 for random reading and 1,400,000 for writing of the same type.
The offer consists of three versions, with capacities of 1 TB, 2 TB and 4 TB. The endurance level varies depending on the model: 600 TBW for the 1 TB version, 1200 TBW for the 2 TB and 2400 models. TBW for the 4TB variant.
Covered by a five-year warranty, this 990 EVO Plus starts at the recommended price of $109 for the 1TB version, $189 for the 2TB version and $344 for the 4TB model.
