In the public sphere, there is regular talk about digitization, sophisticated Internet of Things solutions, artificial intelligence and various technological solutions that would help companies become more productive and efficient.

Hearing these technological terms, I am convinced that most Latvian entrepreneurs think that this does not apply to them and is very expensive.

And these entrepreneurs can be accepted, because not everyone can afford individually developed information and communication technology (ICT) solutions and, paradoxically, contrary to popular belief, not everyone needs them. Why is it?

In Latvia, about 99% of companies by world standards are small and medium-sized enterprises, which, according to the management consulting company’s Arthur D. Little analysis of the market situation in the Baltics, want affordable and simple standard solutions.

However, this does not apply to specific production technologies. On the other hand, the primary thing that an entrepreneur evaluates in order to purchase one of the solutions is cost-effectiveness and the possibility to adapt this solution to the conditions of his company, for example, changes in the number of users or configuration.

Therefore, the desire for standard ICT solutions is very understandable.

Small and medium-sized entrepreneurs are looking for solutions that help and facilitate various processes in the company, but these solutions must be easy and quick to learn and cost-effective.

If we look at the various technological solution services that small and medium-sized enterprises in Latvia need, then according to the analysis performed by “Arhur D. Little”, for example, for voice communications it is 24/7 availability, but in the field of various applications and software they are basic applications, such as office, accounting and e-commerce. In turn, in the field of the company’s network infrastructure, it is high availability and opportunity to receive consultations.

Looking at the experience and choices of Tele2’s corporate customers, we see that standard solutions are in high demand, especially at this time of limitation, when work and the provision of various services remotely have become commonplace for many companies.

Today, 7 out of 10 new corporate customers choose a standard service from our Team IT solution basket, such as a call management solution that allows you to successfully manage and control incoming call traffic without missing a potential customer’s call.

And this is very understandable, because the number of incoming calls from customers has increased by about 38% over the past year, according to a survey of Latvian entrepreneurs conducted by SKDS.

Of course, large companies may need a variety of special and individual solutions, but for small and medium-sized companies with limited financial resources, standard technological solutions are the ones that can help improve the company’s performance and provide better results.

Often, these standard solutions only require a smartphone, an Internet connection, and a mobile app to automate certain processes in the company.

On the positive side, Latvia has funds available from the European Recovery Fund for the development of digitalisation of small and medium-sized enterprises and the improvement of digital skills. For example, for the digitization of traditional processes, it is planned to allocate up to 200 grants to small and medium-sized enterprises with a total funding of 40 million. in euros.

It will be important for Latvian small and medium-sized enterprises not to be afraid and to try the opportunities provided by modern technologies, as customer requirements for companies in this field will become higher and higher.

For example, 34% of Latvians believe that a company should respond to a question within one hour, but 36% – that it should be done within 1-4 hours, according to our survey data.
