9,880 new corona infections, below average

On Friday morning and Saturday morning, 9,880 positive corona tests were reported to the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). That is below the average for the past week, when about 11,000 new cases came to light every 24 hours. For example, the RIVM reported more than 11,500 positive tests on both Thursday and Friday.

It is not known whether the decrease is because counting may be different on Christmas Day.

Deaths

49 deceased covid patients were reported to the RIVM. Yesterday there were 97. In the past seven days, RIVM registered an average of 74 deaths per day, against 63 deaths per day a week earlier. These are deaths who are known to carry the coronavirus. According to Statistics Netherlands, the actual number of deaths is higher.

Hospitals

Occupancy increased in hospitals. In total, there are now 2349 people with corona in hospital (yesterday: 2304), 615 of whom are in the ICU. This is reported by the National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS).

213 new corona patients were admitted to the hospital wards. That is 104 new admissions less than yesterday.

42 new patients were admitted to intensive care, almost all of them transferred from the nursing wards. That is 1 new recordings more than yesterday. So more corona patients were admitted than were discharged or died.
