98 new cases and no deaths in the last 24 hours in Quebec

The latest official report of COVID-19 in Quebec reports 98 new cases of infection in the province for 24 hours. The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic has reached 62,124 (of which 55,106 are considered recovered).

On Friday, August 28, several announcements were made by the provincial and federal governments. Earlier today, the Quebec Ministry of Health announced today that the duration of isolation of confirmed cases of COVID-19 would drop from 14 to 10 days. At the same time, the federal government extended restrictions on the Canadian border for international travelers until September 30.

If no death has occurred in the last 24 hours, Quebec nevertheless reports a death that occurred before August 21. The total of deaths in the province, however, remains at 5,750 as an investigation has removed one death not attributable to COVID-19.

The number of hospitalizations has increased by 2 people compared to the previous day’s assessment, for a total of 117 (of which 17 are still in intensive care, an increase of 2).

The number of tests on August 26 was 15,711, for a total of 1,622,269 samples taken. Regarding the contamination of samples that occurred in a laboratory a few days ago, the government specifies that a reassessment has identified 78 cases of COVID-19 which should have been negative and not 40 as previously announced. The erroneous cases will be withdrawn gradually, the ministry said.
