The GNR in Viana do Castelo has 300 troops to monitor compliance with the new traffic restrictions imposed by the state of emergency and will carry out two operations of “greater scope on the A28”, said that police force today.
Contacted by the Lusa agency, regarding the special circulation restrictions to be adopted between today and next Monday, which prohibit travel outside the municipality of residence in the Easter period, except in authorized situations, the source of the GNR Territorial Command of Viana do Castelo said that the first operation will take place on Friday, at the entrance of the new bridge in Viana do Castelo, in the access to the A28 motorway, in the south / north direction, between 14:00 and 18:00.
On Sunday, the other inspection action provided for in the “Easter at Home” operation, will take place, between 09:00 and 13:00, at the exit of Neiva, from the same highway that connects Viana do Castelo to Porto.
According to the GNR source, “in each of the two operations, about 20 to 25 military personnel will be involved”.
Asked about the control on the border with Galicia, the source explained that “in the eight points of the district of Viana do Castelo where the passage to the neighboring country is prohibited, discontinued patrols will be carried out every day and several times”.
Contacted by Lusa, the PSP commander of Viana do Castelo, Rui Conde, said that “all personnel from the Viana do Castelo and Ponte de Lima squadrons will inspect the mobility and access to those two municipalities, as well as inside, to verify compliance with the legal provisions in force ”.
The president of the District Civil Protection Commission, Miguel Alves, told Lusa that “the GNR and PSP have ensured a joint action of great visibility, in various locations in the district, with a particular focus on approaches to and out of towns and cities” .
“It is also reinforced the presence in places usually used for walks, inspection actions on the A28, A27 and border areas between municipalities.
