97:70! Uni Baskets impress at the season opener – Uni Baskets

The Münster team quickly corrected the only deficit (0:3). Sigu Jawara was a clever director in a team that moved the ball fluidly from the start and built up a 13-point lead early on. By the time the score was 19:6, six Uni Baskets players had already scored. This was an expression of great joy in playing together. Towards the end of the quarter, the guests from Artland were playing better, reducing the deficit to 22:14. Jawara hit the fourth Münster three-pointer to make it 25:17 after ten minutes. The second quarter became a more balanced game. The lead grew slightly to 46:36 by halftime.

In the third period, the Uni Baskets failed to get back into the game against the now aggressive Dragons, conceding a 0:6 run (46:42). But the Rohdewald team quickly managed to put the guests under pressure and force possession. The reward was a celebrated 14:3 run to make it 60:45 after three long-range goals in a row from the Baskets. An open exchange of blows developed between the two teams. Nick Stampley and Cosmo Grühn then crowned excellent ball movement at the end of the quarter with threes number 12 and 13, temporarily increasing the 50 percent quota from long distance. 78:61 before the final period. In this, Münster kept the defensive energy high, allowing only nine points from the guests. Offensively, the passers found a series of good solutions until they took a 30-point lead (97:67) shortly before the end of the game.

Voices about the game

Götz Rohdewald, head coach of the Uni Baskets: “In the last test we played the way we wanted to. We kept the Dragons at 70 and we at 97, so I’m happy with that. We played very well together up front. The ball moved very, very well in most phases. Defensively we still need to be a bit more alert now and again. We had a few phases where things didn’t go so well. But all in all I’m very happy with where we are now at the end of the pre-season. It looks good.”

Stefan Weß, forward of the Uni Baskets: “That was a good game from us. We can go into the season with a good feeling. We scored almost 100 points, we played well together offensively. I also liked the fighting spirit, we won a few 50:50 chances. We still need to improve a few tactical things. The big man got the ball under our basket too often in the first half. Things that we can stop.”

Sigu Jawara, Point Guard from Uni Baskets: “We played a solid game in the last game of the pre-season. We worked hard to get better. The season will be a challenge for us, but we played really well today. Our ball movement was very good. That was an aspect that our coach wanted to improve from last year. We worked a lot on that. On the passing game, how I find my teammates, who also want the ball. I really like playing for my teammates. I like our team play.”
