97 killed by plane crash Pakistan, two survivors Abroad

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Airbus A320 crashed on a street between houses in a residential area of the city of Karachi after attempting to land several times. Rescuers have spent the night trying to get victims out of wreckage.

19 victims have now been identified, health officials say. DNA tests are conducted at the University of Karachi to identify the deceased.

One of the survivors, a bank director, is in a stable state, said Murad Ali Shah, the prime minister of the southern province of Sindh, who met the man in a hospital. In the end, he turns out to be one of two people who survived the disaster.

Shortly before the crash, according to the airline, the pilot had reported technical problems to the tower. Radio reports indicate that one of the aircraft’s engines was down. Eyewitnesses reported to local TV stations that they saw the plane circling the airport before it crashed into the residential area.

The disaster comes as Pakistanis prepare for the end of Ramadan and many return to their families to celebrate.
