9,622 new corona infections registered in the last 24 hours

In the last seven days, an average of 6,865 corona infections have been registered per day. The corresponding average seven days ago was 4,240, so the trend is rising.

On Tuesday, 277 corona patients were hospitalized. There were seven more than the day before.

85 of the patients are in the intensive care unit, and 64 of them receive respiratory treatment. There are seven fewer in intensive care and one more in respirator compared with the day before, according to the Norwegian Directorate of Health’s overview.

Over 450.000 positive

A total of 460,530 people have now tested positive for corona in Norway, according to the National Institute of Public Health. The previous 24-hour record for Norway was 6 January 2022, when 8,385 infections were registered.

A total of 1,350 corona-infected people have died in Norway since March 2020, preliminary figures show.

The measures expire

On Friday this week, the measures introduced by the government before Christmas expire, and a new assessment will be made.

– We have looked at many of the measures that have been implemented and also the overall situation – not least how it now works in the municipal health service and in the hospitals. It forms the basis for the advice we give, and then the government will weigh this against other sectors of society than the health sector, said assistant health director Espen Nakstad to NRK on Tuesday.

He believes that the measures that were introduced just over a month ago have had a very good effect on the infection situation, among other things through a much slower increase in the omicron variant compared with other countries. There has also been no increase in hospital admissions.
