Jean-Marie Le Pen, father of Marine Le Pen, founder and former president of the French National Front (today: National Consolidation), was placed under so-called “judicial protection” due to his health condition, writes the Le Figaro.
95-year-old Jean-Marie Le Pen is effectively subject to legal measures corresponding to guardianship. The news was announced by the vice-president of the National Consolidation, Louis Aliot, and it was reported that the measure was initiated by his family in court based on a medical opinion that established Jean-Marie Le Pen’s deterioration.
Based on the February order, in the future his three daughters – Marie-Caroline, Yann and Marine Le Pen – are his representatives, and they can act on their father’s behalf. Le Figaro writes, based on the statements of several people close to Le Pen, that Jean-Marie Le Pen’s health has been steadily deteriorating since the heart attack he suffered in April 2023.
MTI recalled about the former party leader that between 1972 and 2011 he was the president of the National Front, which he founded, in which he succeeded in uniting the various tendencies of the historical French far-right. Because of his verbal expressions, he was repeatedly convicted of racism and anti-Semitism. In 2002, he managed to reach the second round of the French presidential election, which was eventually won by the centre-right Jacques Chirac. He was succeeded in 2011 by his daughter, Marine Le Pen, who has always reached the second round of the presidential elections in the last three presidential elections. In the meantime, the successor party of the National Front, the National Consolidation, became the largest opposition party in France.
