90PLUS | Bundesliga starts with 18,000 spectators

News

News | The opening game of the new Bundesliga season will probably take place in front of spectators. In Borussia Park, 18,000 people could watch the duel between Bayern Munich and Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Spectators at the Bundesliga start

At the end of the last Bundesliga season, spectators could be seen in the stadiums again. Union Berlin ended the season in front of fans, Holstein Kiel also completed the second leg of the relegation in front of partially occupied stands. At the moment the incidence figures are low in all of Germany, and so plans are also being made for the start of the new season with guests in the stands. As has now become known (via Kicker), the opening game between Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayern Munich should be allowed to take place in front of up to 18,000 spectators. The corona rules of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia enable such utilization.

Already on July 31st, 2021 a test match in the arena of the foals should be allowed in front of the same crowd of fans. There it goes against FC Groningen. The record champions will then arrive on August 13, 2021. In order to be allowed to enter the stadium, fans must either present a current negative test, proof of a recovered corona illness or proof of complete corona vaccination. After a long period of abstinence, the missing atmosphere from the stands could return to the Bundesliga with the spectators. Provided, of course, that the infection doesn’t pick up again.
