Bundesliga Awards
Bundesliga Awards | The 27th matchday in the Bundesliga is over and after the interruption due to the international phase there were some exciting duels. Dortmund has to tremble for the premier class, FC Bayern took an important step towards the title.
“Late Luck” Award: Eintracht Frankfurt
Eintracht Frankfurt played in the Bundesliga against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday afternoon. The Hessians drove to Dortmund in a very good situation, four points ahead of BVB. The Terzic-Elf absolutely want to go to the Champions League, but the hosts noticed the pressure situation, Dortmund seemed relatively nervous in some phases. Frankfurt, meanwhile, benefited from an own goal by Nico Schulz and took the lead.
Of the BVB In the meantime, however, caught up and came through Mats Hummels to equalize. Even that did not give the black and yellow the necessary security. Too often there were ball losses in midfield, unclean passes and offensive actions that were not played to the end. And so happened what had to happen: Frankfurt met. In the closing stages, Andre Silva provided the guests with the late winner. The Hessians now have seven points ahead of Dortmund. So the starting position in the fight for the premier class is very good.
“Nothing forgotten” award: Klaas-Jan Huntelaar
Of the FC Schalke 04 has written some negative stories this season. In winter there was a period of hope, partly because Klaas Jan Huntelaar returned. The striker is very experienced and still has a good eye for goals. But he has not been able to show that so far because the Dutchman was hardly able to prove himself on the field due to an injury.

Huntelaar started against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. But Schalke, which is in last place and is almost hopelessly behind, could not make a big profit from it. The Royal Blues lost 2-1, but Huntelaar showed his quality at the goal of the 1-2 connection. Cross from the left, the Dutchman takes the ball in a backward movement, immediately closes and places: goal. But that doesn’t change the very likely farewell from the Bundesliga for S04.

“The decisive step” award: FC Bayern and the preliminary decision in the Bundesliga
On Saturday evening it was FC Bayern in the top game RB Leipzig to guest. Four points separated the two teams before the game. It was therefore clear that RB needed a win to keep the title race open. Both teams had to struggle with personnel worries in this top game, which you also noticed on the field. Bayern played without top scorer Robert Lewandowski, stood a little lower than usual and even left the ball to RB in some phases.
The hosts had few chances to score, especially in the first half. That changed after the break, the challenger could not score a goal. And FC Bayern showed in one action why it continues to be the measure of all things in the Bundesliga. Joshua Kimmich came to the ball, played an outstanding ball on Thomas Müller in perfect quarterback manner. Short turn, watch out Leon Goretzka: Finish in the upper right corner. The winning goal of the record champions was the best move of the game. And in the end the decisive step towards championship.
“180 degree” award: Borussia Mönchengladbach
Borussia Monchengladbach had struggled with a few issues in the past few weeks. The departure of coach Marco Rose, who is moving to BVB in the summer, was a factor. But even before that there were negative tendencies. The result: the foals currently have little to do with the fight for the European ranks. The game against SC Freiburg on Saturday evening could turn into a turnaround. Because Borussia won 2-1, mainly thanks to a 180-degree turn in the second half.

In the first part of the game, SC Freiburg dominated. The Breisgauer took the lead, had some very good and determined counterattacks, but missed some very good opportunities. Borussia gradually found their way into the game and came to a relatively happy equalizer when a conclusion from Marcus Thuram was deflected into the goal. But that was the starting signal for a good second half. Gladbach played better, more committed, was more compact and again scored the winning goal through Thuram. The 180-degree turn gave the foals not only an important victory in the Bundesliga, but also one of our coveted awards.
“Dünnere Luft” award: 1. FC Köln and relegation in the Bundesliga
Of the 1. FC Cologne is one of the relegation candidates in the Bundesliga. One of the reasons for this is that often too little of the team of Markus Gisdol comes. In Wolfsburg, too, the yield was poor in the end, the guests from Cologne did not score a goal. But overall the performance was good in some phases. Wolfsburg, which is one of the absolute top teams, had problems and in the end only narrowly won 1-0.
However, the work victory of the wolves did not exactly cause enthusiasm among those responsible at 1. FC Köln. The air in the relegation battle is getting thinner, because Augsburg took off, Mainz and Bielefeld at least didn’t lose. In the coming week Cologne will meet Mainz and urgently need a win, otherwise it will undoubtedly be tight for the coach.
No frills award: Andre Hahn
Of the FC Augsburg is not a team under Heiko Herrlich that stands for spectacular and high-class football. But: After the win against TSG Hoffenheim, the Fuggerstadters are relatively safe in the middle of the table and can slowly but surely plan to stay in the league. One of the reasons for this is that the initial phase in the game against the Kraichgauer could be made extremely efficient. Symbolic of this is the goal to make it 2-0 Andre Hahn.
Augsburg won the ball in their own half and immediately a long ball over 70 meters into Hahn’s barrel followed. The hosts’ offensive player orientated himself briefly, did not even look around for a teammate, closed immediately and gave Hoffenheim goalkeeper Baumann no chance with a precise shot. This early 2-0 was extremely important and largely responsible for the fact that Augsburg was able to take away three important points despite only having around 30 percent of the ball in the end.
“Fair Draw” Award: The Derby in Berlin
At the end of the day had to Hertha BSC ran in the derby at the Alte Försterei at Union Berlin. After fans set off fireworks around the stadium, Hertha got off to a weaker start than the Köpenicker. Union consequently took the lead and could have decided the game early. After almost half an hour, Hertha recovered and found a little better in the game. Dodi Lukebakio equalized for the relegation-threatened old lady, as a result Hertha had a better phase.
Since absolutely nothing happened in the second half, the draw was completely okay in the end. Real derby fever arose only rarely, a pack formation in the first half was the highest of emotions. Union can live better with the point in the end, Hertha BSC is still in the relegation battle.
