Bundesliga Awards | On the weekend, the 24th matchday took place in the Bundesliga. Schalke continues to stand still, Bayern decided the top game for themselves and Gladbach lost again. We look back on the weekend!

Shootout-Award: Haaland vs. Lewandowski

The top game between Bayern and Dortmund was of course particularly in focus this weekend. On Saturday evening the time had come and, especially in the first phase of the game, the guests from BVB seemed extremely alert and active. Erling Haaland, the guests’ Norwegian attacker, got off to an excellent start. His first shot after just over a minute was immediately crowned with success. The ball hit the lower right corner, still slightly deflected. After an excellent lateral shift by Mo Dahoud and a nice combination, Haaland got the ball back after a good ten minutes and scored again! Dortmund led 2-0 and the Norwegian beat the world-class striker in a duel Robert Lewandowski in front!

But the Empire struck back. Served by Leroy Sane, Lewandowski scored the 1: 2 in an extremely important phase. The Pole even used a penalty just before half-time to make it 2-2. But that’s not all. Lewandowski himself also made the final score to 4: 2. The duel on the field decided the FC Bayern for himself, Lewandowski scored one more goal than Haaland and is already 31 goals this season.

“Twice the same goal” award: Filip Kostic

Eintracht Frankfurt played against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday afternoon. The 1-1 draw was a thoroughly entertaining game, both sides had good chances and many successful actions. But above all it caused a sensation Filip Kosticwho played with the hosts on the left in front of the back three. Kostic, who is in excellent shape, scored a remarkable goal when the score was 0-0 when he pulled from the left with his strong left foot and placed the ball perfectly flat in the right corner. However: the hit didn’t count.

After a little confusion, it was clear why. Luka Jovic stood offside in front of the goal before shifting to the other side. Stuttgart reacted afterwards and scored through Now Kalajdzic the 1: 0. The Hessians were not impressed by this and came in turn to equalize. The goal scorer was Kostic and now it gets strange: Again he scored the goal from the left side, from an almost identical position. Again the Serb hit the ball perfectly, again the ball hit the bottom right corner untenable for Gregor Kobel. So Kostic scored exactly the same goal twice.

“On the spot” award: Schalke against Mainz

At the start of the 24th matchday, the FC Schalke 04 and the FSV Mainz 05 opposite. In the relegation battle, of course, both wanted to win. On the Schalke side, it was also the coach’s first appearance Dimitrios Grammozis. And he realized that he still had a lot of work to do. Schalke was not set badly and the motivation was right, but there was far too little around it.

Mainz 05 was the better and more dangerous team in a game that at times resembled a bad pass festival. Schalke had a lot of defensive players on the pitch – and you could see that clearly. Mainz had the better chances, but in the end neither team could score a goal. This means that both continue to step on the spot and stand in the deepest table cellar. If there was a small winner, it was more likely the guests from Mainz.

Liberation Strike Award: Bayer 04 Leverkusen

Bayer 04 Leverkusen has lost a few games in the last few weeks, the performances were sometimes very bad. Before the game at Borussia Monchengladbach the Werkself were already under pressure. However, that also applied to the opponent. And so a game developed in which you noticed on the one hand that both teams have a lot of quality, but also that both are a little insecure. Attacks were not played to an ideal end, and there were a few bad passes that are not known from these teams.

But in the end there was a liberation – for Bayer Leverkusen! The Werkself did not play outstandingly, but scored the one decisive goal Patrik Schick. Peter Bosz, The coach of the guests, has more support again. For Marco Rose and Borussia Mönchengladbach, the goals of the season are moving even further into the distance.

Sovereignty Award: RB Leipzig

On Saturday afternoon, before Bayern’s top game against Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig played in Freiburg. The team had a coach Julian Nagelsmann the chance of first place, at least for a little over an hour. And RB Leipzig proved that they are currently in very good shape. The guests defeated the Freiburg sports club 3-0 and showed no nakedness.

Leipzig played well, was compact and took advantage of the mistakes that Freiburg offered in abundance. Christopher Nkunku, Alexander Sörloth and Emil Forsberg scored the goals, the victory was actually not threatened in any phase. Furthermore, FC Bayern’s lead over Leipzig is only two points, and there will be a direct duel in a few weeks.

“A perfect week” award: Christoph Baumgartner

Christoph Baumgartner has at the TSG Hoffenheim very well developed. The Austrian midfielder is one of the most important players in the Kraichgauer squad and often acts as a link between defensive and offensive. He also knows how to put himself in the limelight in the last third. Those responsible at TSG were also very satisfied with the player’s performance, which is why the contract was extended over the long term. The club announced this during the week, so Baumgartner was particularly in focus at the weekend.

And the Austrian delivered. In the game against a very strong one VFL Wolfsburg Baumgartner was the player who made TSG 1-0. A perfect assumption, a quick reaction afterwards, a placed shot that flew into the goal from the lower edge of the crossbar: this goal had everything that makes a nice hit. In the end, TSG Hoffenheim won 2-1 and celebrated a very important victory thanks to Baumgartner, among other things.

0-0 award: Bielefeld against Union Berlin

Arminia Bielefeld and Union Berlin completed the game day on Sunday evening. The game ended 0-0 and apart from one phase in which the guests from Berlin had three chances in a row, none of the teams worked very well to change that. There was a lot of passion, a lot of struggle and a lot of running work, but scoring chances in the first game of the new Bielefeld coach Frank Kramer were in short supply.

And so this final game of the 24th matchday of the Bundesliga will barely make it into the top 5 of the most spectacular games of the season. For Bielefeld, however, the point win was not unimportant, in the fight against relegation every point can be the decisive one.
