During this year, Elektrum’s electric car charging network has grown to 90 ports, which is more than the ambitious target set at the beginning of the year. New stations have been installed in regional cities, and some of them have been implemented in cooperation with partners. At the end of the year, the first charging station was built in the Riga district. It is planned to reach 230 ports in all Baltic countries next year.
During this year, Elektrum’s electric car charging network has grown to 90 ports, becoming the largest charging network in Latvia and the second largest in Latvia. Most of the charging stations are in Riga, but charging points have also been set up in the largest cities in Latvia. It is important that the charging possibilities of electric cars are also assessed by entrepreneurs, creating them in the objects they own together with Elektrum. Together with the partner, 34 ports have been built, while the lease of the Elektrum Drive service is connected at 10 ports.
“With the strengthening of Latvia, we will continue to develop our network not only locally. If this year our goal was to reach at least 84 ports, and we have even exceeded this plan, then next year plans to actively work with ports in Lithuania and Estonia, becoming a Baltic player in the charging network. “Our ambitions are to create a network with 230 ports in the Baltics. The Baltics will also have their own brand name – Elektrum Drive, with which other products may appear in the future without recharging,” says Kaspars Cikmačs, CEO of Latvenergo AS. member.
A new stage in the development of the network has also begun in Latvia, with the opening of the first charging station in the Riga district, Nīcgales Street. This is a challenging environment that has to deal with historical factors, the most important of which are the infrastructure of the yards, the lack of parking, and the complex property rights that make decisions long and difficult.
“The development of charging in neighborhoods is a challenge that many consider impossible. However, we are proving that it can be done for the benefit of all parties – by tidying up the environment and showing that you can also drive an electric car in the neighborhood and do it today. we will open such stations and will definitely continue to do so in 2022, “says Ansis Valdovskis, Head of the Electric Transport Charging Network of Latvenergo AS.
In 2011, the Latvenergo Group registered the first electric car in Latvia, while the first public electric car charging station was opened in 2010. Currently, Elektrum electric car charging stations can be found in Riga, Jelgava, Jekabpils, Valmiera, Liepaja and Daugavpils. All Elektrum charging stations pay for the used kilowatt hours (kWh), which is a convenient and accurate way for the customer to estimate the battery charge. Owners of electric cars also have the opportunity to purchase charging equipment and accessories for their household in the Elektrum online store.
