“At the start of special operations, the Ukrainian Air Force had as many as 250 combat aircraft and helicopters at its disposal. “Russian Air Force troops have destroyed 89 warplanes and 57 helicopters on the ground and in the air,” said Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov, as quoted by Reuters. SputnikThursday (10/3/2022).
According to Konashenkov, the Ukrainian Air Force is also almost completely out of first- and second-class military pilots, and is limiting flights to individual attempts to carry out missions.
Konashenkov added Russia had destroyed 81 radar stations of Ukraine’s air defense forces, causing a loss of battlefield control and a dramatic decline in the country’s air defense capabilities, which have been reduced to only local capabilities to counter.
“Russian forces have destroyed a total of 2,786 pieces of Ukrainian military infrastructure since the start of the operation,” Konashenkov said.
A total of 49 facilities, including two command and control points, six air defense systems, four ammunition and fuel depots and 37 military equipment concentration areas were destroyed in Wednesday’s operation.
The Russian Defense Ministry spokesman said Ukrainian losses included 953 tanks and other armored vehicles, 101 rocket artillery systems, 351 artillery and mortar systems, 718 military vehicles and 93 drones. He also pointed out that 137 Ukrainian S-125, S-300 and Buk-M1 air defense systems were destroyed, with these losses accounting for more than 90 percent of Ukrainian air defense systems.
