90% of Germans fear inflation and abandon consumption habits

Rising prices have forced consumers in Germany to tighten their belts and change their consumption habits, according to a survey by market research firm Nielsen IQ.
The survey, the results of which were released on Saturday and involved more than 10,000 people, showed that 52% of consumers in Germany now only buy the products they really need.

About 44% of respondents said they give up “leisure or luxury” products, 31% instead try to reduce visits to restaurants and eat at home, and about 30% agree saying: “I do less shopping”.

“People also use many other austerity strategies, compare prices more, pay more attention to specials, and switch to cheaper products such as different-brand or store-bought products,” said Lothar Steipelin, an expert at Nielsen IQ. .

Many consumers are also changing their drinking habits, for example replacing butter with margarine and mineral water with tap water.

According to the survey, only about 10% of consumers are not worried about inflation at all, especially those on higher incomes.
