A paramedic at El Geneina Hospital told the newspaper that the initial death toll from tribal violence during the past few days has exceeded 90 dead civilians and hundreds of wounded.
The Sudan Tribune newspaper reported today, Wednesday, that at least 90 people have been killed in tribal clashes in West Darfur since last Monday.
The newspaper said that fierce fighting broke out on Monday between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, which turned into a conflict between the African Masalit tribe and Arab tribes, in which heavy weapons were used.
A paramedic at El Geneina Hospital told the newspaper that the initial death toll from tribal violence during the past few days has exceeded 90 dead civilians and hundreds of wounded.
He added that large numbers of bodies are lying on the roads and have not been removed due to the difficult security situation and the spread of tribal militants in large parts of the city of El Geneina.
A senior official in the government of West Darfur told the newspaper that the armed Arab tribes “looted all government institutions, the headquarters of international organizations, the main market of El Geneina, the headquarters of the police forces, and a large number of citizens’ homes.” The official pointed out that large numbers of citizens fled towards Chadian territory, despite the government’s closure of the borders.
