9% Year-on-Year Increase in Job Postings: Health Care, Art, and Administration in High Demand

There is a 9% year-on-year increase in job postings. This is reported by recruitment experts and specialized sites.

A significant demand for people is registered in health care, art, administration, commerce and construction. There are also more job advertisements in transport, manufacturing, hospitality and catering.

An exception is the IT sector, where there is an annual decline of 34%, as well as in marketing – by 1%.

The IT industry is cutting wages and laying off people

The decline in demand is also felt by IT specialist Nikolay Minchev, whom the bTV team meets at the Labor Bureau. “I’ve been looking for a job for two months now. It wasn’t so difficult before, there were years when it was easy to find a job,” he explains.

According to one of the personnel selection companies, the trend of a decrease in the demand for IT staff is a fact, but fortunately, companies in our country have not resorted to laying off employees, but only to reducing the appointment of new ones.

“This is dictated by the worldwide stagnation and the beginning of the recession in some countries, which are the main clients of the IT companies that work in Bulgaria. As a result, the hiring of new people decreases,” explains Svetlozar Petkov, a manager at a recruitment company.

Experts hope that the decline in the demand for personnel in the IT sector will not be followed by a decline in production. A significant part of the goods produced in our country go to Germany, where the economy has not been on the rise in the last year.

According to economists, the labor market in our country will remain in good condition after the average gross salary exceeded BGN 2,000 last year.

“The labor market in Bulgaria is quite active at the moment from the point of view of the demand for personnel, and until we have a more serious recession, it will remain in this form. This means that the workers will be able to negotiate for higher wages,” said economist Stoyan Panchev.

“There is a very high threshold in our work, but I am ready to work for BGN 4,000,” claims Nikolay.

Experts report that most job advertisements – nearly 45% – are for employees in the capital, where the market is the most dynamic. Plovdiv and Varna follow, while in Burgas, Ruse and Stara Zagora the demand is less.
