9-Year-Old Girl Found Alive After Suspected Kidnapping at New York State Park

The 9-year-old girl who authorities suspected was kidnapped Saturday in a state park in northern New York has been found alive, police in that state said Monday night.

“Charlotte Sena has been located and is in good health,” state police said in a statement. A suspect is in custody, state police said.

The girl was riding her bike alone at Moreau Lake State Park in Saratoga County on Saturday night when she disappeared.

Shortly before, she was camping with her family when she was last seen around 6:15 p.m., state police reported.

WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE DETAINED PERSON

State police identified a person who was in the area of ​​Moreau Lake State Park at the time Charlotte disappeared.

Additional investigation led to the search of multiple homes where the individual is known to reside. After searching those sites, at approximately 6:32 pm this Monday, the State Police located the girl safe and sound, and detained the suspect whose identity has not yet been revealed.

On Saturday, the girl was riding her bike through a segment of that park with family friends and then did a portion on her own, authorities said.

His bicycle was found on that road.

State police activated an Amber Alert on Sunday, “for a child abduction” that occurred around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday.

The circumstances of the girl’s disappearance led police to suspect that the child was in “imminent danger of serious harm and/or death,” according to the Amber Alert.

State police said earlier Monday that about 400 certified search and rescue personnel were searching for the girl over a distance spanning 46 linear miles.

The FBI and the U.S. Marshals Service were assisting, state police said.

The investigation was classified as a missing child case, it was added.

Charlotte’s aunt, Jene Sena, told NBC News on Monday that her niece disappeared within just a few minutes.

“She disappeared almost into thin air. I mean, minutes, minutes, passed between the last time they saw her and the time she was no longer there,” Sena said.

The state park where the child disappeared is about 50 miles north of Albany.
