Persistent cough, runny nose and fatigue – these are some of the symptoms of the Omicron variant, which affect even the fully vaccinated, writes in “Independent”.
Researchers in Norway conducted a study by interviewing 111 of 117 guests at a party that took place on November 26, 2021, and became the epicenter of infection with this variant of the coronavirus. Of those in the study, 66 were confirmed carriers of the virus, and 15 were suspected to have been infected. Of all 111 participants, 89% had injected two doses of RNA vaccine, but none had a booster.
According to the findings, published in the infectious disease and epidemiology journal Eurosurveillance, there were eight key symptoms experienced by the group of fully vaccinated party goers. These are: persistent cough, runny nose, fatigue, sore throat, headache, muscle aches, fever and sneezing.
The study found that cough, runny nose and fatigue were among the most common symptoms in vaccinated individuals, while sneezing and fever were the least common.
Public health experts also add nausea to that list of symptoms in vaccinated people infected with the Omicron variant. Although the vaccine prevents the virus from getting more serious, it is still possible to get sick even if you have both a full immunization and a booster.
The mild nature of the symptoms makes it difficult for people to distinguish the virus from a common cold. But according to British professor Tim Spector, around 50% of ‘new colds’ are currently actually COVID-19.
Experts also suggest that there are two different symptoms that could be a sign that a positive test is around the corner – fatigue and dizziness, even fainting.
More than just feeling tired, fatigue can turn into bodily pain, causing muscle soreness or weakness, headaches, and even blurred vision and loss of appetite. About 40 percent of women reported struggling with fatigue due to COVID, compared to a third of men, according to a WebMD poll that asked users how often they suffered from fatigue from Dec. 23, 2021, to Jan. 4, 2022.
