9 Sheep in Panjalu Ciamis Predated by Panthers

Ciamis News, (harapanrakyat.com),- Nine sheep belonging to the residents of the Dusun Nanggela, Sandingtaman Village, Panjalu District, Ciamis Regency, West Java, were eaten by a panther.

The panther began to descend from the mountains and into residential areas.

Local residents also admitted that they were restless with the roaming of these wild animals.

Tatang Saprudin, the head of Dusun Nanggela, Sandingtaman Village, confirmed that there were 9 sheep belonging to residents who were preyed on by the wild panther.

The incident, said Saprudin, occurred on Thursday (11/11/2021).

“Of the nine sheep, some were eaten and some were left dead,” said Saprudin on Monday (11/15/2021).

The descent of the panther from the mountain, continued Saprudin, made the residents restless.

“In addition to preying on sheep and other livestock, residents are worried that the panther can harm and injure people,” he said.

With the occurrence of sheep preyed on by tigers, the Sandingtaman Village government immediately reported the incident to the BKSDA.

Although the breeders did not claim the loss, the farmers in the Dusun Nanggela requested that the BKSDA of Ciamis Regency be able to return the panther to its habitat.

Residents also asked what kind of security solution from BKSDA.

“As long as the existence of sheep and goat pens is not accompanied by a protective fence, it is possible for residents’ livestock to be targeted,” said Saprudin.

Udin, one of the residents, said that the panthers descended into residential areas because their habitat was disturbed.

“The leopard’s habitat is disturbed, the availability of food is reduced so that it descends to the settlements to prey on the residents’ sheep,” said Udin.

He continued, to anticipate that wild animals do not come down the mountain and feel at home in their habitat, they must avoid poaching.

“There should also be a safety fence with barbed wire in every cage that is prone to being threatened by wild animals,” he said. (Edji/R8/HR Online/Editor Jujang)
