9 North Sumatran Binjai Residents Trapped in Ukraine: Ask for Evacuation Help

Nine residents of Binjai City, North Sumatra (North Sumatra) caught in the middle of the Russian invasion in Ukraine. They are currently in Chernihiv City and hiding in one of the bunkers for cover.

The nine people included Iskandar, Muhammad Raga Prayuda, Amri Abas, Muhammad Aris Wahyudi, Zulham Ramadhan, Syafitra Sari Yoga, Agus Alfirian and Dedi Irawan. They have been in Ukraine since 2018 working as plastic factory workers.

“Today is March 5, 2022 to be exact. We are Indonesian citizens who are in Chernihiv. There are nine people from Binjai, North Sumatra, asking the Indonesian government to evacuate immediately,” said one resident of Binjai who was trapped there in a video that went viral on social media. , Monday (7/3)

In the video circulating, the nine migrant workers asked the Indonesian government for assistance in order to be evacuated as soon as possible. Because the situation there is increasingly unfavorable.

“We ask for an immediate evacuation. Because the situation here is already serious and unsafe,” he said.

Separately, Ayi Rodiah, the wife of Iskandar, a resident of Binjai who is still trapped in the city of Chernihiv, admitted that he always communicated with his husband and son when the Russian invasion of Ukraine broke out.

“Every time I make a video call, I see that the location is not very safe. I really hope that they will be evacuated. I hope that Allah will always pray to Allah that they will be protected,” she explained in tears.

In fact, according to Ayi, when she had a video call with her husband, an explosion was heard. This condition made her worried for her husband’s safety.

“It was my night video call the sound of bombs still sounded, even now it was cold there because of the winter, I was told to wear a blanket. My husband said he asked to be evacuated immediately,” said Ayi.

According to Ayi, her husband has worked in Chernihiv, Ukraine for four years with his son and seven friends who are neighbors in Binjai City.

“My husband and children and their seven people have worked in a plastic factory for four years since 2018. Of course they are very worried about their condition there. We hope the government can evacuate them,” he hoped.

It is known, Russia’s attack on Ukraine showed no signs of abating until Monday (7/3). Although there has been a ceasefire agreement in Mariupol, Ukraine, Russia’s onslaught in Ukraine is even more intense.

Even Ukraine has not been able to evacuate civilians from the city as Russian troops continue to fire.
