9 Facts of the Planet Venus, the Unique and Terrible Morning Star

Jakarta

Planet Venus is one of the most interesting objects in the Solar System. The second planet closest to the Sun seems to have an interesting fact that is rarely known to many people.

Here are some strange and terrible facts about the planet that is often referred to as the Morning Star, quoted from Space, Saturday (15/5/2021):

1. There are thousands of volcanoes

There are more volcanoes on the Planet Venus than on any other planet in our Solar System. There are at least 1,600 volcanoes on the surface and possibly many more that are too small to be seen from Earth. Scientists say most of the volcanoes are probably inactive.

2. A Very Long Day

One day on the Planet Venus is equivalent to 243 days on Planet Earth. That’s the time it takes Venus to rotate. Meanwhile, a year on Venus, which is a shorter period of revolution around the Sun, is 224.7 Earth days.

3. Earth Twin

Of all the planets in the Solar System, Venus is said to be the most Earth-like. The size is almost the same, as is the composition. The orbit of Venus is also closest to Earth. Both surface worlds are relatively young and also have thick atmospheres. However, Venus’ atmosphere is predominantly poisonous sulfuric acid.

4. Extraordinary Heat

Since part of the atmosphere is made up of carbon dioxide, an extreme greenhouse effect hits the surface Venus. The temperature can penetrate 470 degrees Celsius so it is impossible to land any rides there that can live long.

5. Extreme Pressure

The air pressure on the surface of Venus is also extreme, about 90 times higher than that of Earth. In other words, the air pressure on Venus is almost the same as the water pressure at a depth of 1 kilometer under the Earth’s sea.

6. Can be seen across the sun

Venus is one of the rare planets that humans can see when they pass in front of the Sun. Apart from Venus, only the Planet Mercury is like that. Venus’s transit across the Sun occurs when it passes between the Sun and Earth (or another planet), making it visible above the Sun as a black dot.

7. The Most Brilliant Planet

Although Venus is not the largest planet, its distance from Earth makes it the brightest planet when seen from Earth. He is only less brilliant than the Moon. So bright that there was a case in 2011 in which Air Canada pilots thought it was the plane that was about to crash into it.

8. Make Curious Since Ancient Times

Venus has been observed for thousands of years. The ancient Babylonians tracked it in space in 1600 BC. Pythaforas was the first to find an object that was thought to be a star and appeared in the morning and evening as the same object, namely Venus.

9. Very Strong Winds

The wind roared in Venus at a very high speed. Recorded can reach 724 kilometers per hour. Thus, the wind speed there is greater than the most violent tornado winds on Earth.
