Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia Consciously or not some daily habits can actually cause disease. Even if it is done continuously it has bad effects and has the potential to make someone die young.

Here are habits that can hasten death:

1. Do not like to socialize

Experts reveal that socializing less and even tending to isolate oneself more often has an impact that is as dangerous as smoking or drinking alcohol on health. Lack of socializing is said to increase the tendency of short-lived people by up to 50 percent.

Not only that, you are more likely to catch a virus if you stay indoors too long.

2. Lots of debt

Not wise in using your money, so having financial problems can actually trigger cardiovascular disease.

A 2014 study published in BMC Public Health found that older people who live paycheck to paycheck without extra funds for emergencies have a greater risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

People who are more careful with their finances are less likely to suffer financial pressures that can really break your heart.

3. Smoking

Diseases related to smoking are the most preventable killers. With just one cigarette, blood pressure can rise and reduce blood circulation to the feet and hands.

4. Often stressed

Stress in any form can actually be very detrimental to your health, especially for your heart.

According to a report by Johns Hopkins Medicine, almost all prolonged negative emotions, from anger to resentment to sadness, will cause several problems in your body. When you experience negative emotions, your blood pressure rises, your heart rate spikes, and your body releases the stress hormone cortisol. Please note, cortisol can increase the risk of heart disease.

5. Drink lots of alcohol

Numerous studies show that occasional drinking of alcohol, especially wine, can benefit your body.

But if you drink more than the limit of two drinks per day or more, then it can cause liver damage, diabetes and is the cause of nearly 100,000 cases of death each year.

6. Lack of sleep or too much sleep

Research shows that people who don’t get enough hours of sleep die more quickly. People who often stay up late and have trouble sleeping have a higher risk of early death compared to people who meet their sleep needs.

Adults should get at least seven to eight hours of sleep a night. According to Harvard Medical School’s Healthy Sleep, less than five hours of sleep is not okay, while more than nine hours is also not good.

Lack of sleep can weaken the immune system, increasing the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes. All of this can get you closer to the grave without realizing it.

Experts recommend that you go to bed at the same time every night, and avoid drinking alcohol or using electronic devices three hours before bed.

7. Sitting too long

Sitting for too long or more than three hours a day can shorten your life by up to two years, according to research published in the British Medical Journal. Sitting increases your chances of getting cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, and other diseases that can kill you quickly.

If your job requires you to be sedentary, at least get up and take a walk every 30 minutes. Don’t just sit all day in front of a computer screen.

8. Do neck stretches

Stretching the neck may be one of the habits that many people do to get relaxation. However, if it is done too often and without knowing the right way it can cause serious problems, including stroke.

According to a case study reported by Science Alert in 2019, a 28-year-old man was pinched in the neck and then had a major stroke. Evidently, the act of stretching the neck actually tears the arteries. This tear then causes a blood clot, and the clot causes a stroke.

9. Eat a lot of red meat or processed meat

According to Harvard Men’s Health Watch, every time you add a serving of red or processed meat to your daily diet, it increases your risk of death by about 13 percent.

You can substitute red meat for other forms of protein like fish, for example. Eating fish can reduce your death rate by 7 percent.
