The third episode of season 5 of “9-1-1”, which aired last night in the United States, was marked by Maddie’s heartbreaking farewell. But does that really mean Jennifer Love Hewitt is leaving the show? Not sure.

Have American 9-1-1 fans just witnessed the somewhat expedited departure of one of the series’ heroines? This is in any case what suggests the third episode of season 5, broadcast last night in the United States on the Fox channel.
As French viewers on M6 discovered last Thursday during the broadcast of the last three episodes of season 4, Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) suffers from postpartum depression, following the birth of little Jee-Yun .
An upheaval which obviously creates tensions in his relationship with Chimney (Kenneth Choi) and which has visibly reached a point of no return in “Desperate Measures”, the episode of season 5 proposed yesterday across the Atlantic.
Indeed, while the opening plot of this fifth salvo centered on a general blackout and the return of the serial rapist who had assaulted Athena (Angela Bassett) ended after three episodes of insane intensity, Maddie made the decision to ditch Chimney and Jee-Yun.
After dropping off her baby at the fire station, the former 911 operator left town. But not without leaving Chimney a farewell message in the form of a video in which she explains to him that their daughter is not safe with her.
“I’m sure you’re lost, hurt, and certainly scared”, explains Jennifer Love Hewitt’s character in this heartbreaking post. “I don’t know what to say. Don’t go to the police or try to find me. I’m not in danger and no one is forcing me to do this.
Jee-Yun is not safe with me. And she may never be. I know you’re gonna take good care of her, and that she’s better off without me. I love you. I love you both. And I’m sorry “.
Everything therefore seems to indicate that Maddie has left Los Angeles and that she does not want to be found. But did Jennifer Love Hewiit really quit 9-1-1 for good? Or does this plot still have some unexpected twists in store for us?
When we know that the star of the saga Remember … last summer, who joined the series created by Ryan Murphy at the beginning of season 2, gave birth to her third child last month, it seems quite likely that the unexpected departure of Maddie is simply a scenario trick imagined by the authors of 9-1-1 to justify her absence during her maternity leave.
It remains to be seen what twists await us in the next episodes of season 5 and how Maddie will reappear in the series.
