A woman mauled by two dogs in a terrible attack was found as cops were following a trail of blood.
The 89-year-old, who was fighting for his life, was in his backyard with his 12-year-old grandson when they were attacked.
Police were alerted after the brave boy ran to a neighbor’s house for help.
Police officers rushed to the scene in Golden, Colorado, and found the victim after following a trail of blood that led to the family home.
The gold police department said it found two dogs attacking the woman in the backyard at around 3:30 pm on Wednesday.
Police said in a statement: “The officers verbally challenged both dogs and eventually used less lethal tasers and rifles to try to put distance between the victim and the dogs.”
The statement added that when the agents attempted to approach the victim, “the dogs surrounded the agents” and ultimately “the less lethal options weren’t effective.”
When more officers arrived, they were eventually able to restrain the dogs and save the woman.
She was treated by paramedics waiting in the kitchen and then rushed to hospital with non-fatal injuries.
The woman’s grandson, also seriously injured, was treated at a local hospital before being flown to a children’s hospital, where his condition remains stable.
As of Thursday afternoon, the woman was still in critical condition.
Police said the two dogs were “captured and taken to a local veterinary clinic where they were treated and examined.”
One of them was “put down because of his injuries” while the other is being held in a shelter.
Police are still investigating the incident.
